Zero Tolerance: Sending your Children Home without an Education 単著 2017年 9月 金城学院大学論集 Studies in Humanities, 14 (1) 95-101 This paper examines the recent increase and often misuse of Zero Tolerance policies in schools from the theoretical perspective of hegemony and shifting through different theories of power/control. Students have a fundamental right to an education yet Zero Tolerance policies violate democratic principles by having little flexibility and no consideration of the students’ intentions or circumstances. Alternatively, the use of pro-active and positive management strategies is more attuned to the structural and supportive needs of adolescent students, with a goal of decreasing disruptive behaviour and increasing achievement.
Social Learning Theory: Bullying in Schools 単著 2018年 3月 金城学院大学論集 Studies in Humanities, 14 (2) 68-75 This paper examines some of the effects and roles of parents, teachers and other socializing agents in order to understand the complex social problem of bullying in schools within the theoretical framework of social learning theory (STL). The paper discusses how SLT is related to the phenomena of bullying; examines research concerning the learning of aggressive behaviors by appropriate models; the impact of school-based bullying intervention programs; and offers areas of further research in the study of aggression and bullying, summarizing some of the recommended educational practices to reduce bullying in schools. Specifically, the paper argues that modeling, reinforcing and enforcing pro-social behaviors to all students is an effective way to reduce bullying occurrences.
